Le Cinque Terre sono cinque paesi della riviera Ligure di Levante nella provincia di La Spezia nella catena montuosa degli Appennini dove questa bruscamente si immerge a mare, modellata dai terrazzamenti creati nei secoli dall'uomo. 
Alcuni sono costruiti  in brevi pianure nelle insenature naturali sul mare come  Vernazza e Monterosso,  altri partono dal mare e  si   sviluppano sui ripidi versanti dei torrenti come Manarola e Riomaggiore ed infine Corniglia   su  uno  sperone  roccioso   con pareti a precipizio sul mare. 
E' un territorio unico che,  per le sue caratteristiche paesistiche ed ambientali,  č divenuto Parco Nazionale con Riserva Marina ed č nella lista dei siti patrimonio Mondiale dell'Umanitą dell'UNESCO.

HOW TO GET THERE 

The Cinque Terre is made up of five coastal villages (Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso), tucked away in a series of small inlets at the very end of the Levante (eastern) side of the Ligurian Riviera, in the province of La Spezia.  This stretch of coastline has been inhabited from very early times, but  for many centuries  was only accessible by sea, therefore preserving its natural beauty.   It is so unique that in 1998 it was listed as a world heritage site under the protection of UNESCO.  Characteristic of the region is the terraced landscape  used  for  the cultivation of  vines, olives  and  fruit.  Visitors can embark on spectacular sea or  mountain excursions, or wander through the narrow little streets with their colourful houses, so  typical of   these villages, and sample the delicacies of the region.
